Aspen Medical: Building emergency blood transfusion capability in challenging environments

Severe bleeding is one of the leading causes of preventable death in trauma. In Haiti, Aspen Medical clinicians established a multinational walking blood bank to ensure rapid access to lifesaving whole blood in an austere deployed setting. Regular drills demonstrated the ability to deliver blood within 45–55 minutes of activation. The lessons offer a practical model for trauma care in disaster response and remote healthcare operations.
