Our Past & Present
Founded in 2003 by Glenn Keys AO, the company was established to provide the highest quality healthcare in remote, challenging or under-resourced environments where there is high demand. The company’s first contract was to reduce orthopaedic and dental waiting lists in the UK. Aspen Medical’s success in reducing those waiting lists in the UK led to opportunities closer to home. In 2004, Aspen Medical began providing primary healthcare and surgery clinics to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel in Solomon Islands.
A decade on and Aspen has a team of over 2,200 and operates across Australasia, the Pacific Rim, the Middle East, the USA, Canada and the UK. In the past 12 months alone, the company’s turnover and team has doubled in size. Today the company has customers in the Government, Defence, Mining & Resources, Oil & Gas and Humanitarian sectors. We work closely with our clients to identify their requirements and provide targeted, efficient, innovative and guaranteed solutions to healthcare challenges. This focus on the final outcome is unique in the outsourced healthcare market anywhere around the world. We can provide from a single paramedic to a full-spectrum solution involving a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, ambulances, medical facilities, equipment, consumables, pharmacy products, procedures and aero-medical evacuation services including the company’s own aviation assets.
High-profile contracts include providing health services across Australia’s 52 ADF sites; the Remote Area Health Corps (RAHC), which places health professionals in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory on a short-term basis; the Rural Locum Assistance Program (Rural LAP), which supports and recruits suitable locums to enable rural professionals to get away on leave to support ongoing service delivery; the provision of ambulance services in the UAE through the company’s subsidiary, the National Ambulance Company, and most recently winning the contract to provide Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) to all subsidiary companies in the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
Our multi award-winning company has most recently won the Health & Biotechnology category at the 51st Australian Export Awards. This follows on from winning the ACT Exporter of the Year 2013. We previously won this award in 2012, 2011 and 2007. We were also recognised by Adelaide Research & Innovation as the 2013 Innovation Champion. Other awards include Australian Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 (Services), Project Management Awards in 2005, 2006 and 2007, the Australian Achiever Awards for Customer Service in 2006 and the Telstra Business Awards in 2007. Aspen was also recognised by leading Australian magazine BRW as the fastest growing company in 2007 and was acknowledged as the Coolest Company in Australia in 2008 by Anthill Magazine and PwC. BRW voted Aspen as the most Successful Private Company of the Year (with turnover under $100M) for 2009.
