Background

A major operator in Australia’s upstream energy sector manages coal seam gas exploration and production across remote inland regions. These sites span geographically dispersed areas with limited access to local health infrastructure, creating complex challenges in ensuring timely, high-quality healthcare for workers.

To maintain workforce safety, support wellbeing and sustain operations in these environments, a comprehensive and responsive health service was essential.

Approach

Aspen Medical is delivering an integrated, high-performance health service tailored to the needs of a remote, large-scale energy workforce. Since 2009, we have provided long-term, multi-site medical support through a dynamic service model that evolves with operational requirements. Our current scope includes:

  • 24/7 emergency response and advanced pre-hospital care
  • primary healthcare, physiotherapy and telemedicine
  • occupational health, injury management and environmental health
  • health and wellness campaigns, first aid and CPR training
  • drug and alcohol screening, vaccination programs and health surveillance
  • pharmaceutical supply and asset management, including AEDs and first aid kits
  • electronic health records, analytics and tailored reporting
  • An embedded project manager to coordinate service delivery.

Results

Between July 2022 and April 2024 alone, Aspen Medical’s multidisciplinary team supported:

  • more than 3,000 patient presentations
  • 1,500+ physiotherapy consultations
  • nearly 19,000 health and wellness interactions
  • 2,400 drug and alcohol tests
  • emergency response and first aid training for 1,450 workers.
  • Fewer than 0.05 per cent of all clinical presentations required offsite transfer. This significantly reduced the need for medical evacuations, ensuring continuity of operations and minimising disruption.

Outcome

By embedding clinical leadership onsite, maintaining OSHA-compliant pharmaceutical practices and leveraging data for proactive health management, we have delivered measurable improvements in care access, safety culture and operational resilience.

Our continued partnership supports the client’s vision for a safe, healthy and engaged workforce—setting a benchmark for workforce health in remote industrial environments.
