Background

From 2019 to 2024, Aspen Medical delivered critical onsite healthcare services across multiple remote Australian energy sector operations for a leading operator. These sites included industrial sites known for their geographical isolation and elevated occupational risk. Aspen Medical was engaged to provide continuous health and medical support, reduce clinical evacuation rates and strengthen workforce health and safety outcomes.

The program supported several major energy facilities and field locations, where medical accessibility was limited and operational continuity was essential.

Approach

Aspen Medical deployed an experienced, multidisciplinary team including medical practitioners, intensive care paramedics, nurses, a health operations manager and an industrial hygienist. Services were delivered 24/7 and included:

  • emergency medical response and mass casualty management
  • primary healthcare and routine injury or illness management
  • fitness-for-work and return-to-work assessments
  • medical surveillance and drug and alcohol testing
  • incident investigation and health hazard risk management
  • infection control, food and water safety
  • health promotion and preventative programs
  • clinical documentation, reporting andtraining of work teams.

Medical personnel were embedded across sites, operating dedicated clinics equipped to manage both routine and complex clinical scenarios without interrupting site productivity.

Results

Over the life of the contract, Aspen Medical:

  • managed more than 30,000 non-urgent medical presentations, predominantly respiratory, dermatological, ENT, gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal in nature
  • delivered more than 140 medical evacuations, averaging approximately three per month, primarily for chest pain and trauma-related conditions
  • performed thousands of fitness-for-work and drug and alcohol tests, enabling reliable workforce screening
  • provided immediate, onsite clinical care that significantly reduced the need for offsite medical visits — preserving operational uptime and reducing costs.

Outcome

Aspen Medical's sustained clinical presence:

  • maintained health and safety for a large, geographically dispersed workforce
  • reduced disruption through early intervention and onsite treatment
  • supported client compliance with regulatory and internal health risk frameworks
  • contributed to measurable improvements in workplace health culture and incident prevention.

By aligning clinical delivery with broader operational objectives, Aspen Medical ensured continuous, high-quality care in challenging environments—minimising lost work time and supporting a safer, more resilient workforce.
