From Defence service to global healthcare delivery
Celie Bright-Perry’s career reflects the strengths Aspen Medical values most: clinical excellence, operational readiness and calm leadership in complex environments.
A former Australian Army nursing officer, Celie began her career while completing a Bachelor of Nursing Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Through the Army’s undergraduate nursing sponsorship program, she gained early exposure to military clinical pathways and operational health support, setting the foundation for a career shaped by purpose and accountability.
During her service, Celie deployed to the Solomon Islands as part of a whole-of-government mission, supporting Australian Defence Force health operations in austere conditions. Delivering both primary and advanced clinical care, she contributed directly to force readiness, interagency coordination and mission outcomes. She also served during Operation COVID-19 Assist, working within multidisciplinary Defence medical teams to support civilian health services during a period of national strain.
After transitioning from Defence, Celie joined Aspen Medical, where the shift felt natural. “My transition from Defence to Aspen Medical felt surprisingly seamless. The emphasis on a team approach, professional integrity and clinical excellence mirrored the values I was already accustomed to, which allowed me to focus on growing as a clinical manager rather than relearning how to work within the system.”
Her first role with Aspen Medical saw her deploying autonomously as a registered nurse within our maritime health services team. Operating in a high-tempo maritime environment, Celie provided mission-critical medical support that enhanced the health and safety of all those onboard. Celie’s colleagues in the maritime operations team commented on her exceptional professionalism, advanced technical expertise and operational agility in a high-tempo environment.
Celie is now based in New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea, where she supports the delivery of clinical services to more than 4,000 patients each month at the Lihir Medical Facility on behalf gold mining giant, Newmont. Her work contributes to sustained access to healthcare in a remote setting, strengthening community trust and reinforcing Aspen Medical’s client relationships through consistent, high-quality care.
Throughout her journey, Aspen Medical has actively supported Celie’s professional development. “Aspen Medical has encouraged autonomy, continuous learning and strong clinical governance across a range of settings. I’ve felt trusted to lead while being supported and mentored to build new skills and expand my scope in a meaningful way.” She is also a member of Aspen Medical’s Vita Nova program, which supports veterans to build purposeful second careers beyond Defence.
Celie’s story reflects Aspen Medical’s commitment to employing veterans and recognising the value of Defence experience. The adaptability, professionalism and team-centred leadership developed through military service translate directly into delivering healthcare where it matters most.
