Ba Hospital achieves international gold standard marking a new era for healthcare in Fiji and the Pacific

In a first for any hospital across the Pacific, Aspen Medical–managed Ba Hospital has officially earned the prestigious Gold Seal of Approval® from Joint Commission International (JCI), a globally recognised symbol of quality that reflects an organisation’s commitment to meeting international standards for patient safety and quality of care.
JCI accreditation is awarded to healthcare organisations that demonstrate continuous compliance with rigorous, evidence-based standards spanning clinical care, patient safety, leadership and facility management.
Aspen Medical CEO in Fiji, Gavin Whiteside, said, “This is more than just a plaque on the wall. It’s our promise to every Fijian family in the Western Division that the services delivered at Ba Hospital are world class. I would like to thank Executive Director of Nursing Ana Jimenez, whose leadership, guidance and tireless mentorship have been the driving force behind this transformational change at Ba Hospital.”
Speaking about the achievement, Ana Jimenez, Executive Director of Nursing and JCI Lead, said it was deeply humbling to work alongside such a dedicated workforce and to be part of this incredible journey.
“I am just the conductor. The team brought the music to life. From clinical to non-clinical staff, everyone played their part, and they played it from the heart. The ability to identify and act on opportunities for improvement, supported by effective leadership and teamwork, is the framework that serves as our foundation for delivering quality and safe care,” she said.
The successful accreditation process involved a comprehensive review of Ba Hospital’s clinical and operational systems, positioning the hospital at the forefront of healthcare excellence and continuous improvement in the Pacific region.
