A rapid response to help our friends in the Solomon Islands
Following the devastating floods in the Solomon Islands our teams across the Group didn't waste any time in getting aid to our friends and colleagues on the ground.
The Solomon Islands’ capital Honiara was severely affected by flooding. Thousands were displaced and the death toll rose steadily as the days passed.
Aspen Medical was very swift to act, particularly in support of our 26 local staff who work at our hospital, some of whom lost homes and family members due to the flood. Our teams in Canberra and Brisbane arranged for relief stores to be sent on the earliest available flight to Honiara and within days 720kg of rice, tuna, noodles, tarps and toiletries were being distributed to local staff by our team on site. Soon thereafter 45 boxes of clothing were sent to Honiara.
Recovery will take some time and we will continue to provide support to our colleagues in the Solomon Islands.
We would like to recognise the following businesses that were very quick to provide us with heavy discounts or no charge on their products and services in order to play a part in the relief effort:
- Masters Hardware - Brisbane
- Value Depot – Brisbane
- Pacific Air Express - Brisbane
- Toll Priority – Canberra
We would also like to recognise the teams in Canberra and Brisbane who made it happen and for embodying our corporate slogan - Wherever we’re needed.
