Being a FIFO worker can mean missing special family events such as Christmas, birthdays or anniversaries. Based on our experiences providing FIFO health professionals to the resource sector, we have identified the top 3 tips that our team have found helpful when navigating these challenges.

1.Getting organised

Organise the celebration when you are home, even if this means double celebrations. Just because Christmas is generally celebrated on 25 December, there is no reason that this can’t be celebrated on a different day.

2.Keep a calendar

Create a calendar with your family to showcase your family’s special dates. This means that not only can you tailor it to your own lifestyle but ensure no one misses key dates.

3.Think outside the box

If you know you are going to miss a special event, plan to leave a present for the person so they can find it on the day. It becomes a little challenge and an event that you are participating in, even if you are not there.
